Do you get your omega-3s?
There is ample evidence suggesting that adequate omega-3 fatty acid intake is crucial for health of the heart, brain, eyes, and immune system. Therefore, omega-3 supplementation is a must if you want to stay healthy and vital well into old age.
EPA and DHA
The two most important omega-3s fatty acids for human health are EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) and DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid).
EPA and DHA are so important that they are considered “essential fatty acids.”
Interestingly, despite the fact that they are essential for proper functioning, they are not actually produced by the body itself. This means that EPA and DHA must be obtained through food or supplementation.
However, the unfortunate truth is that EPA and DHA are not available in very many foods. Plant-based omega-3s, such as those found in chia and flax seeds, are primarily ALA (Alpha-linolenic Acid). ALA is poorly converted into EPA and DHA in the body. This means it is not an adequate substitute for animal based omega-3s.
EPA and DHA are primarily found in animal foods. Small amounts can be obtained from the fat of grass-fed lamb and to a lesser extent grass-fed beef.
The most potent source of EPA and DHA, however, comes from seafood. So, unless you regularly consume 3.5 oz of fatty cold water fish per week, it really is important to supplement omega-3s.
The ultimate omega-3 supplement is krill oil.
Krill vs. Fish
Many people default to fish oil for omega-3 supplementation. However, it turns out that fish oil is not the most effective, safe, or ecologically responsible choice.
That’s why Divine Health developed ICED Krill. Krill oil is more bioavailable than fish oil, contains a special antioxidant, is cleaner and safer than fish oil, and is by far more environmentally friendly.
Bioavailable Phospholipid Delivery
The cells in your body are protected by a cell wall comprised of a phospholipid membrane. Omega 3 fatty acids are incorporated into the phospholipid membrane to help keep the cell wall flexible and healthy.
Unfortunately, the omega-3s in fish oil are attached to triglycerides that must be broken down by your digestive system before they can be absorbed by the cell wall. During this process up to 85% of the omega-3s can be lost!
On the other hand, ICED Krill Oil supplies EPA and DHA in their highly absorbable phospholipid form. This makes the omega-3s from Living Krill Oil ten times more bioavailable than those found in standard fish oil!
Astaxanthin
Omega-3s are delicate and unstable polyunsaturated fatty acids. This means they are prone to oxidation, and consuming oxidized oils can be extremely damaging to your health. So it is crucial to choose your omega-3 supplement wisely.
It is a fact that many of the omega-3 and fish oil supplements on the market are rancid. This is because when the delicate omega-3 fatty acids are exposed to light, heat, or oxygen, they quickly oxidize and become not only useless, but actually harmful to your health.
But do not fear! Living Krill Oil comes with the naturally occurring antioxidant astaxanthin. Astaxanthin stabilizes the fatty acids in the krill oil protecting them from oxidation. This ensures that you get all of the amazing benefits omega-3s intact without any of the negative effects of consuming oxidized oils.
Free of Contamination
Krill are tiny marine organisms that are harvested far from industrial pollution. They are also low enough on the food chain as to not accumulate considerable amounts of toxic contaminants such as heavy metals, PCBs, and pesticides.
Fish oil is often riddled with mercury and other toxins that become concentrated higher up in the food chain. So for a cleaner source of omega-3 choose Iced Krill Oil.
Sustainability
Did you know that krill actually makes up the largest biomass in the world? There are more krill than any other creature on the planet! This means that over harvesting of krill is simply not a concern.
Fish, however, are in very real danger of being over harvested. Many previously prolific fisheries all over the world have been dramatically depleted in the last 100 years. For this reason, krill oil is by far a more ecologically friendly source of omega-3s.
