How to Incorporate Prayer in Achieving Your Weightloss Goals

One in three Americans will die of heart disease this year, and more than ⅓ are obese [1]. We know our food is making us sicker, day by day—the sugars, carbs, and other processed foods. But there’s another piece of health that even Christians fail to utilize for their health goals.

That missing link is the power of surrender and prayer for weight loss.

Here are some thoughts to light a fire in your soul on this subject.

Surrender the Burden and Ask for Help

Jesus called us to pray, give, and fast. That includes “fasting” from the disease-causing sugars and processed foods in our lives. But many of us are feeding addictions to these foods—which are available abundantly in this world—every single day.

We’re tempted to turn food as a comfort in loneliness, feelings of unfulfillment, and grief or sadness. It’s an epidemic problem, and we can’t do it alone.

If you’ve been struggling with your weight, health, and food addictions for far too long, it’s time to let go and give it over to a higher purpose. Lay the food choices you’ve been making on the altar and ask for divine guidance in self-control.

By welcoming God’s love deep into our hearts, we can fill those voids and start to love ourselves once again—a necessary piece of any weight loss transformation.

Honor and Repair Your Temple

You were created with what God calls His temple—your body—to be treated with the utmost care and respect. Many of us forget this and neglect our physical bodies, year after year.

Pray for support in making food and exercise choices that will repair your temple, leading to a healthy weight, strong body, and joyful energy all your days.

Speak the Word Over Your Health

Our thoughts around self-image and health are powerful—and often negative. Shift the narrative to one of faith and healing with daily declarations:

  • I commit to nourishing my body as the temple of God.
  • I lay sugars, excessive carbs, and excessive starches on the altar and commit a program that will help me achieve my weightloss goals.
  • I give thanks to Him for my body, in all situations, whether the scale moves or not.
  • Thank you, Lord, for this weight loss. I praise you with each pound!
  • He covers me in divine power and peace to endure all challenges of the flesh.
  • I am worthy of love, respect, and a life of abundant joy.
  • I will follow through on what I start, in the name of Jesus.
  • In the Name of Jesus, I take authority over food addiction!
  • In this brand new day, I commit to a life of gratitude, faith, courage, and self-control.

Welcome Self-Love Into Your Life

Also, remember that caring for yourself isn’t selfish.

You can’t fully serve the needs of your family, church, and heavenly Father without also filling your own life well. You can’t be the mother, father, wife, husband, etc. you were called to be if you’re exhausted.

Invest in yourself. Peace in life, body, and soul will follow.

Most people wait to ask for help until after they’ve had many weight loss failures—or until they’re in the hospital from a heart attack, diabetes, or some other serious ailment.

Don’t wait. Instead, ask God for help at the beginning of your journey. It’s the most powerful supplement to any diet plan.

Remember, you are not separate from God. With Him, you can lose the weight and keep it off—for a lifetime of health.
