Next Level Keto Tacos: 3 Ways
1. Make Your Shells Delicious
When it comes to keto taco shells, you’ve got a choice: Bland and boring, or avocado-oil fried and delicious!
To take yours to the next level, start with either a store-bought or homemade low-carb keto tortilla.
Then, pour 1″-worth of avocado oil into a small or medium skillet (a 6″ one works well). Heat the oil on medium-high heat. Once oil seems hot, pinch off a tiny piece of a tortilla and place oil. If it stays on top and sizzles, you’re good to go.
Once the oil is hot, place the tortilla in the oil. Allow to cook for about 30-45 seconds, or until crispy on one side. Then, flip the tortilla over. Fry for about 15-30 seconds until crispy. Using tongs, fold the tortilla in half to form a shell. Remove from the oil and place the tortilla on a plate covered in paper towels. Next, turn the heat down to medium. Repeat the above with remaining tortillas.
Notes: You may want to cover your hand/arm with an oven mit to avoid hot oil splatter on your arm. Also, you cannot step away during this process. This is full-on 100%-attention and focus for 5 minutes.
Alternatively, brush each keto tortilla with avocado oil. Then, air fry in your air fryer. Enjoy!
2. Season With Nourishing Spices Rather than Toxic Chemicals
Unfortunately, many commercial tacos spice mixes are full of toxic chemicals (1) that have no place in delicious Keto Tacos.
This is really too bad. Spices are one of the earth’s most potent sources of nutrients, antioxidants, phytochemicals, anti-inflammatory compounds, and more. So, let’s use healthy ones instead!
