7 Health Benefits of Balsamic Vinegar

There are many amazing health benefits to balsamic vinegar. These include:

1. Antioxidants and Polyphenols.

Balsamic vinegar is packed with antioxidants and polyphenols that combat oxidative stress, cellular damage, and more.

2. Lower Cholesterol.

The antioxidants in balsamic vinegar specifically target harmful LDL that can become oxidized to form arterial plaques. This activity reduces the risk of high cholesterol and artery blockages (1).

3. Better Digestion.

Balsamic is high in acetic acid, which can contain probiotic bacteria (healthy bacteria). These probiotics can improve digestion, gut health, and increase the activity of pepsin in the stomach. What’s more, healthy gut bacteria further effect many systems in the body, including blood sugars, immune function, bone health, and more.

4. Healthy Blood Sugars and Weight Loss.

Believe it or not, insulin resistance is reduced, and blood sugars are improved for up to 5-6 hours after the vinegar is consumed in those with high blood sugars. In fact, animal studies have even shown improved health of anti-diabetes beta-cells after balsamic consumption (2). This improvement reduces the risk of Diabetes, further insulin resistance, and even fat storage.

5. Reduced Blood Pressure.

High blood pressure is a serious issue, and it can get worse every year you age. Thankfully, balsamic vinegar can improve blood sugar. In fact, blood sugars are generally better in those who regularly consume vinegar. A 2016 animal study showed that acetic acid in vinegar reduces blood pressure through a variety of biochemical reactions in the body (3).

6. Better Circulation.

If you have issues with circulation, balsamic vinegar is a great ingredient for you. Those wonderful polyphenols go beyond reduced oxidative stress. In fact, like grapes and wine, balsamic vinegar also improves blood circulation to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In Mediterranean regions, balsamic vinegar is often considered a health-promoting and health healthy ingredient (4).

7. Anti-Aging Properties for Improved Skin.

Although it’s dark brown in color, diluted balsamic vinegar can be applied directly to the skin for an acne remedy… its acetic acid is antimicrobial. What’s more, many experts advise the consumption of vinegar for clearer, brighter, youthful looking skin.

  1. I’ve never added anything to balsamic reductions, it’s delicious on it’s own as the natural sugars concentrate. I cannot imagine adding that much sugar to 1/4 cup of vinegar, and most especially coconut flour. Balsamic vinegar is sweet enough when reduced to a glaze. Some lower quality vinegars take a much longer time to reduce leaving you with only a fraction of what you started with so I’ve added a pinch of xantham gum a couple times but usually nothing else is needed.
