It is one of the most important molecules you need to stay healthy and to prevent disease — it is glutathione. In fact, there are currently more than 89,000 medical articles about its many benefits.

Glutathione is a basic molecule that is produced naturally in your body. It is a combination of three simple building blocks of protein: cysteine, glycine and glutamine. It’s power comes from the sulfur chemical groups it contains. Sulfur is a sticky, smelly molecule, which acts like fly paper in that all the bad things in your body stick onto it. Bad things like free radicals, toxins and heavy metals.Image10

Normally glutathione is recycled in the body. However, whenever your toxic load becomes too great, your body’s level of glutathione will drop to dangerous levels. When that happens, try these steps for raising your glutathione level.

(1) Eat Sulfur-rich Foods
Garlic, onions and the cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, kale, collards, cabbage, cauliflower, watercress, etc.) are great sources.

(2) Exercise Your Way to More Glutathione
Exercise boosts your glutathione levels, thereby helping to boost your immune system, improve detoxification and enhance your body’s own antioxidant defenses. Start slow and build up to 30 minutes a day of vigorous aerobic exercise such as walking or jogging, or play various sports. Strength training for 20 minutes three times a week is also helpful.

(3) Take Glutathione Supporting Supplements
Supplements such as N-acetyl-cysteine, alpha lipoic acid, selenium and methylation nutrients (folate and vitamins B6 and B12) are perhaps the most beneficial ways to keep your body producing glutathione. Methylation and the production and recycling of glutathione are the two most important biochemical functions in your body. Take folate (especially in the active form of 5 methyltetrahydrofolate), B6 (in active form of P5P) and B12 (in the active form of methylcobalamin). While all of those ingredients boost glutathione, the most effective supplement I have found in boosting glutathione is Cellgevity.
